The Objective Review
There is a town in Alaska that has had a cat as mayor for 16 years. The cat named Stubbs has been the mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska for nearly all of his life — no joke.

‘Mayor Stubbs,’ seems to have more than 9 lives in Alaska as to his political career. It appears locals didn’t like the candidates at the time so several of the town residents elected Stubbs as mayor of Talkeetna. So as a joke, they encouraged enough people to elect Stubbs, the cat, as a write-in candidate, and he actually won. Now, thanks to Stubbs, local tour guides have a little fun with the thousands of tourists who come through the town each summer.

What an amazingly weird way to boost the local economy and exercise the community’s opinion of their local candidates. Politics creates new things everyday but sometimes stranger things can happen. One thing is for sure, this community always lands on its feet with Mayor Stubbs at the helm. The community rests assured their mayor will ruffle some feathers should anything get out of the coup.

Talkeetna is located at 62°18′41″N 150°5′13″W (62.311397, -150.087053)[1] at the confluence of three rivers, the Susitna, Chulitna and Talkeetna. The Talkeetna townsite was established in 1919 when the railroad surveyed and auctioned 80 lots. The average price at the sale was $14.25. Flight seeing, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, camping, fishing and hunting make up a large portion of the local economy. Talkeetna is a 2.5 hour drive from Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska.

There is no room for monkey business in Talkeetna with Mayor Stubbs on the prowl.
